Privacy policy

This policy describes what Mealfolder (mealfolder.com and its apps), operated by 9GG LLC, actually collects and does. It is written to match the code, not a template.

What we store

Account: email address, a hashed password, an optional name, the platform you signed up from, and the referring page and campaign tags if you arrived from a link that carried them.
Your content: recipes (including photos you upload or that a recipe page supplies), meal plans, grocery and pantry lists, household membership, tags, ratings and notes.
Usage needed to run the service: last sign-in time, import job summaries, a count of AI assists used per month, and Stripe customer and subscription identifiers if you pay.
Support and rescue forms: the email and message you send, plus the sending IP address and browser string, kept to filter spam.
Server logs: standard web server access logs with IP address, page and browser string, kept for up to 30 days for security and traffic measurement. There is no advertising tracker, no Google Analytics and no third-party cookie on mealfolder.com.

How we use it

To provide the service, sync your kitchen between devices and household members, send transactional email (account confirmation, password reset, household invitations, billing notices), answer support requests, prevent abuse, and understand which pages bring people in. We do not sell personal data and do not show ads.

AI features

When you use an AI feature (reading a pasted or photographed recipe, planning a week, substitutions, "use it up"), the text or image you submit and short summaries of your saved recipes are sent to a model provider to produce the answer. Providers currently used: Groq (text) and OpenAI (images). Requests are processed and not used by us to train anything. Do not put information in a recipe you would not want a third party to process.

Payments

Card details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store them. Stripe's privacy policy applies to that data.

Email

Transactional email is sent through Resend. We send marketing email only to addresses that asked for it on a form, and every such email has an unsubscribe link.

Retention

Your content stays until you delete it or your account. Deleting your account removes your account row and, if you were the only member of your kitchen, its recipes, plans and lists; backups age out within 35 days. Support messages are kept for two years. Server logs, 30 days.

Sharing

Household members see everything in the shared kitchen. Otherwise personal data is shared only with the processors named above (Stripe, Resend, Groq, OpenAI, our hosting providers Contabo and Cloudflare), or when law requires.

International transfers

Servers are in the European Union and the United States. If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, transfers rely on standard contractual clauses with our processors.

Your rights

Wherever you live you can access, correct, export and delete your data from inside the app or by emailing us. If you are in the EU/EEA/UK (GDPR) or California (CCPA/CPRA), you also have the right to restrict or object to processing, to portability (the export button), and to complain to your supervisory authority. We do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA.

Children

Mealfolder is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. Household invitations should go to adults.

Changes

We will post changes here and, for material changes, email account holders.
